Trauma

TRAUMA

According to the American Psychological Association, “Trauma is an emotional response to a terrible event like an accident, rape or natural disaster. Immediately after the event, shock and denial are typical.”

Trauma can also be caused by a physical injury or illness.  Victims of trauma often feel as though they are living in constant danger. Trauma can destroy your sense of security and cause you to feel stuck unable to function in daily life.

Is it difficult for you to trust people? Are you struggling with current or past memories that scare you? Trauma can cause one to feel numb or unable to connect with the rest of the world.  Traumatic experience often leaves people feeling alone, overwhelmed and vulnerable.  

Emotional trauma can be just as devastating as physical trauma. Too often people attempt to cope with unhealthy vices, such as alcohol, drugs and risky sexual behavior.
